As the first week of May and the
beginning of summer approaches, many Frederick residents will be looking
forward to celebrating the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo.
The day is very
important to Mexican culture and heritage as it commemorates the Mexican Battle
of Puebla during the Mexican Reform Wars. On May 5, 1862, the
Mexican army defeated the French army in the Battle of Puebla, which people
during that time thought was unlikely. Today, Cinco de Mayo is seen as a
holiday that both celebrates and commemorates Mexican heritage.
One way
to celebrate this holiday is to check out some of the city’s businesses that feature Mexican cuisine.
